A Mom’s Letter About Arete and Opportunity

This week, Arete Scholars received this heartwarming letter from a mother expressing gratitude for her son's scholarship from Arete Scholars:

“My name is Deise, and I am the mother of Dominic. He is my amazing 7-year-old son, who is on the autism spectrum. We are from New Orleans, Louisiana. For years I struggled finding a school for him because most were unable to meet his needs. His lack of speech and communication meant he needed more help than most.

When I came across St. Therese Academy, I completely fell in love. It is a school for exceptional learners. From the moment I toured the school, I knew it was the perfect school for him. When I learned how much the tuition expenses were, I felt so discouraged. Though it was everything I had hoped for in a school for him, I knew there was no way I could afford it being a single mother.

Months ago, a friend mentioned to me your amazing scholarships. I applied and was so blessed to have received a scholarship for my son. I literally cried tears of joy because I never thought it would be possible for my son to go to such an amazing school.

He now loves going to school. Asks me every day if we are going (even on the weekends, haha). He’s not judged for being different, his teachers are amazing, and the school provides him with the proper tools to thrive in his classrooms. From the bottom of my heart, I thank you for giving my son the Arete scholarship and for giving him a chance at a great education.”
