Jack McElligott, Louisiana Advisory Board Member

For John "Jack" McElligott Jr., serving others has always been at the heart of his work. Whether in the courtroom, the boardroom, or the community, he has dedicated his career to strengthening the lives of those around him.

Born and raised in Lafayette, Louisiana, Jack earned his undergraduate degree from Louisiana State University in 1976 before graduating from the LSU Law Center in 1979. That same year, he began practicing law with the Davidson, Meaux, Sonnier, McElligott, Fontenot, Gideon & Edwards law firm, where he has built a distinguished legal career spanning more than four decades.

In addition to his legal practice, Jack was an owner and officer of Macro Companies, Inc., a business focused on the fuel and transportation industry. Following the company's sale, he continued to provide legal counsel to both Macro and the Lemoine Companies, bringing decades of knowledge and trusted leadership to each organization.

Jack's commitment to service extends well beyond his professional accomplishments. Throughout his life, he has remained deeply involved in the Lafayette community, serving with organizations such as the Lafayette Parish Recreation Commission, Lafayette Habitat for Humanity, 232-HELP, and Legatus of Acadiana, a Catholic organization dedicated to developing leaders who live out their faith in both business and community life.

That same passion for service is what drew Jack to Arete Scholars. Together, he and his wife, Lucie, have long been devoted supporters of Catholic education and believe every family deserves access to a high-quality education rooted in Christian values. Their commitment to expanding educational opportunities aligns closely with Arete's mission of helping students and families find the schools that best meet their unique needs.

As a member of Arete's Louisiana Advisory Board, Jack brings decades of leadership, wisdom, and community experience to help advance opportunities for students across the state. His dedication to faith, service, and educational choice continues to make a meaningful impact on the families Arete serves.
